Learn how to make perfectly crispy sweet potato fries in your air fryer with minimal oil. This recipe focuses on achieving a tender interior and a satisfying crunch, with tips for success.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet potatoes, scrubbed
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch or arrowroot powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Cut the sweet potatoes into ¼-inch thick fries. You can soak them in cold water for 30 minutes to remove excess starch, then pat them completely dry with a paper towel. This step helps with crispiness.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the dried sweet potato fries with olive oil until lightly coated.
  3. Sprinkle the cornstarch or arrowroot powder, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper over the fries. Toss again to ensure the fries are evenly coated.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (190°C).
  5. Arrange the fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket; cook in batches if necessary to ensure even cooking and crispiness.
  6. Air fry for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time. The fries should be tender on the inside and crispy on the outside.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can add an extra teaspoon of cornstarch or arrowroot powder.
  • If you don’t have cornstarch or arrowroot, you can skip this ingredient, but the fries may not be as crispy.
  • Adjust cooking time based on your air fryer model and the thickness of your fries.
  • To reheat leftover fries, place them in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for 3-5 minutes until crispy again.
  • These fries pair well with a variety of dipping sauces like aioli, ketchup, or a spicy yogurt dip.
