Classic chocolate chip cookies with the rich, caramelized flavor of browned butter, soft centers, and a balance of sea salt and semisweet chips.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, browned and cooled
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tsp flaky sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring until golden and nutty. Let it cool slightly.
  2. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  3. In a bowl, mix the browned butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla, mixing well.
  5. Stir in the flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  7. Scoop dough into 1.5-tbsp balls, placing them 2 inches apart on the baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden but centers are soft.
  9. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired. Let cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring.
