A simple and comforting apple crisp with a sweet oat topping, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (like Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with lemon juice, granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Pour the apple mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and salt.
  4. Add the cold butter pieces to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry blender, your fingers, or a fork to cut the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.
  6. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender and bubbly.
  7. Let the apple crisp cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Apple crisp can be made ahead and reheated. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes, or until heated through.
  • To freeze, cool completely, cover tightly with plastic wrap and then foil, and freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
