A custard-soaked bread casserole baked to golden perfection, perfect for brunch.

  • 1 loaf French bread, cubed
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread bread cubes evenly in the dish.
  3. Whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.
  4. Pour mixture over bread, pressing cubes to soak.
  5. Cover and refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Sprinkle brown sugar and pecans on top.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden and set.
  9. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a quicker version, bake immediately after soaking for 1 hour.
  • Top with maple syrup or powdered sugar before serving.
  • Use brioche or challah for a richer texture.
