- 1 loaf French bread, cubed
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spread bread cubes evenly in the dish.
- Whisk eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl.
- Pour mixture over bread, pressing cubes to soak.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight or for at least 4 hours.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Sprinkle brown sugar and pecans on top.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden and set.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a quicker version, bake immediately after soaking for 1 hour.
- Top with maple syrup or powdered sugar before serving.
- Use brioche or challah for a richer texture.
