A creamy, cheesy broccoli casserole that’s a comforting classic, perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound broccoli florets, lightly steamed
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese, plus more for topping
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup crushed butter crackers or breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the lightly steamed broccoli florets, condensed cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, milk, chopped onion (if using), and black pepper. Stir until well combined.
  3. Pour the broccoli mixture into a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the crushed butter crackers or breadcrumbs with the melted butter. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the broccoli.
  5. Top with additional shredded cheddar cheese, if desired.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the casserole is hot, bubbly, and the topping is golden brown.
  7. Let stand for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can substitute cream of chicken soup for cream of mushroom soup.
  • If you prefer a homemade cheese sauce, prepare a roux with butter and flour, then whisk in milk and your favorite cheeses until melted and smooth.
  • Ensure your broccoli is only lightly steamed so it doesn’t become mushy during baking.
  • For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free crackers or breadcrumbs for the topping.
