Bake a batch of tender, fluffy dinner rolls that are perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Stir in the melted butter, eggs, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the flour, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. If using a stand mixer, use the dough hook on medium-low speed for 6-8 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap or a damp towel and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces.
  7. Shape each piece into a smooth ball. Arrange the balls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan, leaving a little space between them.
  8. Cover the pan and let the rolls rise in a warm place for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
  9. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  10. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Brush the tops of the warm rolls with melted butter.

Notes

  • For extra soft rolls, ensure your milk is not too hot, as it can kill the yeast.
  • You can make the dough ahead of time. After the first rise, punch it down, cover tightly, and refrigerate overnight. Let it come to room temperature for about an hour before shaping.
  • If you don’t have a stand mixer, kneading by hand is a great way to develop the dough’s gluten.
