A classic sweet and savory side dish, these glazed carrots are tender and coated in a shiny, buttery glaze. Perfect for holidays or any family meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound carrots, peeled and sliced 1/4-inch thick or left whole if baby carrots
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the prepared carrots in a medium saucepan.
  2. Add the butter, brown sugar, water, salt, and pepper to the saucepan.
  3. Stir to combine and coat the carrots.
  4. Cover the saucepan and cook over medium heat for 15-20 minutes, or until the carrots are tender when pierced with a fork. Stir occasionally.
  5. Remove the lid and continue to cook for another 5-10 minutes, stirring frequently, until the liquid has reduced to a glaze and coats the carrots.
  6. If using, stir in the fresh parsley just before serving.

Notes

  • For a hint of citrus, add 1 tablespoon of orange juice with the water.
  • If you prefer a sweeter glaze, you can substitute honey for the brown sugar.
  • Ensure you stir the carrots frequently during the final glazing stage to prevent burning.
