A hearty and satisfying homemade burrito filled with seasoned beef, rice, beans, cheese, and your favorite toppings, all wrapped in a large flour tortilla.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 (15 ounce) can refried beans
  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 4 large (10-12 inch) flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, sour cream, salsa, guacamole

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium-high heat until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute more, stirring constantly.
  3. Warm the refried beans in a small saucepan or in the microwave.
  4. Warm the cooked rice.
  5. Warm the flour tortillas according to package directions to make them pliable.
  6. To assemble each burrito, lay a warm tortilla flat. Spread about 1/4 of the refried beans down the center.
  7. Top the beans with about 1/4 of the cooked rice.
  8. Spoon about 1/4 of the seasoned ground beef over the rice.
  9. Sprinkle about 1/4 cup of shredded cheese over the beef.
  10. Add any desired optional toppings.
  11. Fold in the sides of the tortilla, then tightly roll up from the bottom to create a handheld burrito.
  12. Serve immediately, or for a crispier exterior, lightly toast the burrito seam-side down in a dry skillet over medium heat until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a spicier burrito, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the beef mixture.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the ground beef.
  • If you don’t have cooked rice, you can prepare it while the beef is cooking.
  • Ensure your tortillas are warm and pliable to prevent tearing when rolling.
