A simple and delicious homemade Margherita pizza with a chewy crust, fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella, and basil.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound pizza dough
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella, sliced
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 500°F (260°C) with a pizza stone or baking sheet inside.
  2. Stretch or roll out the pizza dough to your desired thickness.
  3. Transfer the dough to a piece of parchment paper.
  4. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border for the crust.
  5. Arrange the fresh mozzarella slices over the sauce.
  6. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper.
  7. Carefully slide the pizza (on the parchment paper) onto the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven, top with fresh basil leaves, slice, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a crispier crust, preheat your pizza stone for at least 30 minutes.
  • You can use canned crushed tomatoes seasoned with salt and pepper as a quick sauce alternative.
  • Experiment with different types of fresh mozzarella, like buffalo mozzarella, for a richer flavor.
  • If you don’t have a pizza stone, a heavy-duty baking sheet will work.
