Ingredients
Scale
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
2 celery stalks, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 cup beef broth
1/2 cup dry red wine
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 pound spaghetti
Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off excess fat.
Add chopped onion, carrots, and celery to the pot. Cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
Pour in crushed tomatoes, beef broth, and red wine. Add oregano and basil. Season with salt and pepper.
Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally. For deeper flavor, you can simmer for up to 3 hours.
Meanwhile, cook spaghetti according to package directions. Drain.
Serve the Bolognese sauce over the cooked spaghetti. Top with grated Parmesan cheese.
Notes
For a richer sauce, you can use a mix of ground beef and ground pork.
If you don’t have red wine, you can substitute with more beef broth.
This sauce freezes well, making it a great option for meal planning.
