Ingredients
Scale
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, chopped
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
4 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and unsweetened chocolate over low heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.
Stir the granulated sugar into the chocolate mixture.
Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
Stir in the chopped nuts, if using.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs attached. Do not overbake.
Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
While the brownies cool, prepare the spider web topping. In a small bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the cooled brownies.
Transfer the cream cheese mixture to a piping bag fitted with a small round tip. Pipe concentric circles of the cream cheese mixture onto the brownies, starting from the center.
Using a toothpick or a skewer, drag lines from the center outwards through the cream cheese circles to create the spider web effect.
Cut the brownies into squares using a plastic knife for clean cuts.
Notes
For a fudgier brownie, use good quality unsweetened chocolate.
Ensure your cream cheese is fully softened for a smooth topping.
Practice piping the circles on parchment paper before decorating the brownies.
A plastic knife helps prevent the topping from sticking and smearing when cutting.
Chill the brownies slightly before cutting for the cleanest slices.
